Terry McCashin began making the Mac's naturally brewed beer in 1981 at the old Rochdale cider factory in Nelson. The weird striped bottle the beer comes in today is a legacy of the cider bottles he inherited when he took over the building.
Today even though Terry's moved on, we remain determined to keep his combination of quality and ingenuity alive. Why? Mostly because we think the rest of the world is starting to see things our way. These days, people want more variety in their beer. They're looking for a quality experience with an emphasis on natural processes and real craftmanship. We have one goal and one goal only - making magnificent beer.
Mac's Gold is the beer on which the reputation of the Mac's Brewery was founded. Since 1982 it's been doing a splendid job of being a 4% golden lager with hints of citrus and sweet malts. In the drinking, you'll notice that hops have imparted a wistful suggestion of mid-palate bitterness, but this is soon modified by a delicate caramel sweetness. Conclude this line of inquiry and you'll enjoy the crispest of finishes, refreshed by the clean aftertaste.
